A Virus Disease of Watermelon in Wisconsin Incited by the Tobacco Ringspot Virus'
نویسنده
چکیده
In August 1946, marked viruslike symptoms were observed on watermelon {Citrullus vulgaris Schrad.) and muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) plants in a field at Merrimac, Wis. Inoculations from infected plants to tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), cucumber (Cucumis sativus i.)> ö.nd watermelon demonstrated that the disease was of virus origin. Isolates from watermelon and muskmelon were identical, and one from watermelon was chosen for further study. In 1947 plantings in the same area were surveyed; and again the same virus was recovered from both watermelon and muskmelon, although the incidence was lower than in 1946. In 1948 the disease appeared in much greater proportion than in the two preceding years, affecting about 10 percent of the watermelon plants. Considerable loss resulted. This paper is a description of symptoms of the disease in the field and on certain host plants in the greenhouse, as well as a description and identification of the virus. A preliminary report has already been made (9)}

Inhibitory Effect of Watermelon Mosaic Virus on Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Chitwood Infecting Cucurbita pepo L.
Interactions between root-knot nematodes and viruses were recently reviewed by Taylor (4). Compared to virus-free cowpea (vigna sinensis Endl.), cowpea mosaic virus-infected plants formed fewer galls on roots in response to infection by Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood (2). On the other hand, tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L.) infected with tobacco ringspot virus (TRSV) and ...

Background: Watermelon silver mottle virus (WSMoV), which belongs to the genus Tospovirus, causes significant loss in Cucurbitaceae plants. Objectives: Development of a highly sensitive and reliable detection method for WSMoV. Materials and Methods: Recombinant plasmids for targeting the sequence of nucleocapsid protein gene of WSMoV were constructed. SYBR Green I real-time PCR was established...

Seven field populations of Xiphinema americanum sensu lato from California's major agronomic areas were tested for their ability to transmit two nepoviruses, including the prune brownline, peach yellow bud, and grapevine yellow vein strains of tomato ringspot virus and the bud blight strain of tobacco ringspot virus. Two field populations transmitted all isolates, one population transmitted all...
متن کاملTransient Expression of Biologically Active Anti-rabies Virus Monoclonal Antibody in Tobacco Leaves
Background: Rabies virus is a neurotropic virus that causes fatal, but, a preventable disease in mammals. Administration of rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) is essential for the post-exposure of the prophylaxis to prevent the disease. However, replacement of polyclonal RIGs with alternative monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) that are capable of neutralizing rabies virus has been recommend...
